Critical thinking, communication, and the confidence to pursue multiple high school pathways.
Religion - Social Justice 9
Religious Faith in Dialogue with Philosophy introduces the core principles of Catholic Social Teaching, tracing their Biblical foundations and their dialogue with philosophers from Plato to the present day. The year culminates in a capstone project examining a current social issue through Scripture and philosophy.
English 9
Examining the transformative power of stories. Students engage with classic and contemporary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry from World War I and II literature to contemporary voices in verse while deepening skills in critical reading, analytical writing, and persuasive argument.
Social Studies - Modern Global History 9
How can power affect human dignity? Spanning 19th-century colonialism through the Cold War, this course develops historical source analysis, evidence-based argumentation, and discussion skills through the Harkness method.
Dual Language Enrichment in Humanities 9
Enrichissement en langue française et sciences humaines. A parallel French and Francophone perspective on Social Studies and English, exploring Paris in the interwar years, the Occupation and Resistance, decolonization, and May 1968.
Mathematics - Geometry 9 or Integrated Math 9
Students choose between Geometry 9, consolidating deductive reasoning and proof, or Integrated Math 9, a multidisciplinary IB-aligned pathway across numeracy, algebra, statistics, and probability.
Laboratory Science 9
Biology and Physical Science. A laboratory-based, inquiry-driven bridge between middle and high school science, spanning cellular biology, genetics, chemistry, mechanics, and sustainable technologies.
French as a Foreign Language
Francophone 9 mirrors the French national troisième program. FLE 9 offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced pathways aligned with the DELF's four core competencies.
Performing & Visual Arts
Music Performance and Creative Studies 9 caps the Middle School music program with performance, composition, and digital production. Drawing & Painting 9 and Pottery 9 build craftsmanship through observation, technique, and material exploration.
Wellbeing & Physical Education
Health and Personal Development 9 builds confident, independent decision-making around safety, relationships, and digital citizenship. Physical Education 9 develops fitness, movement skills, and healthy lifelong habits.
Academic Requirements & Advisory
During the second semester of Grade 8, students and families are invited to information sessions on the high school pathways and university admission systems each may support including the IB, the French Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB), the American high school diploma, and the AP Program. Individual advising sessions provide personalized guidance on course selection.
